Axial load bearing carrying capacity

Axial load bearing carrying capacity for standard Extreme Bearings with and adapter sleeve

Double row spherical roller bearings have an extremely high load carrying capacity, tolerating both radial and axial loads in both directions. A standard Extreme Bearing is equipped with this kind of bearing and locked on the shaft  by using an adapter sleeve. When occur a axial load on the shaft mounted by a standard Extreme Bearing is the maximum  load, the load that can be hold by the adapter sleeve.

Based on practical experience can be made a approximate calculation of the axial load which can be kept by the adapter sleeve, by using the a rule of thumb :

Fap = 0,003 · B · d
Fap = maximum permissible axial load, kN
B = bearing width, mm
d = bearing bore diameter, mm

Explanation axial load on a bearing uni

For heavier loads

Extreme Bearing provide two more mounting options to handle more axial forces, depends from which direction the load is.

  • When the axial force is coming from the back side fot the bearing unit, we use a DR-ring to bring the force over straight on the bearing itself.
  • When the force is coming from the cover side of the bearing unit, we use a CV-Busing in a sphircal roller bearing with cylindrical bore to bring the force straight on the bearing itself.

Based on practical experience can be made a approximate calculation of the axial load, by using the a rule of thumb:

0,5 of the radial load is the permised axial load.

DR-ring

When you need a heavier load than can be keep on a adapter clamping force than you need a DR-ring to bring the force over straight on the bearing itself.

Stainless Steel thrust bearings

When the loads are not sufficiently, please explore the EXV thrust bearing units

The EXV thrust flange thrust bearing unit is a new type of bearing unit from the range Extreme Bearing products. Type EXV thrust bearing units are designed to bear and supports heavy axial loads or loads parallel to the shaft axis. This complements the product range because the EXV bearing blocks go much further in carrying very large axial loads.

The axial load depends on the radial load and how the load occur, impact or continuous load, temperature, speed and etcetera. It is quite complicated to made this calculation. Please feel free to contact us with your questions.
